This is some diagrams of what I was talking about earlier in the comment to Jacinta's post. I have looked at how to overlap the areas and how to incorporate the idea of the corridor. The first and last idea looks at how the corridor can provide cross ventilation. Please comment on these ideas!

i know what you mean about diagonal rooms though.
i think the middle option is interesting, as the corridor doesn't flow right through the whole structure, provides different movement of people and spaces.
